Where is it?

Sa Calobra is located in the municipality of Escorca, in the heart of the Tramuntana Mountains.

Since July 2011 it has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in the Cultural Landscape category,

Located directly at the mouth of the Canyon of Torrent de Pareis, it is a source of inspiration for artists and a must for hikers and cyclists on the island.

Its steep terrain makes access difficult, formed by a winding road of spectacular design, sensational beauty and countless bends.

The road that is not suitable for people who get dizzy or don’t have  much driving experience on mountain roads.

The area lies in the shadow of Puig Major, the highest peak in the Balearic Islands at 1,445 metres above sea level and about 14 kilometres from Sóller on the road to Lluc.

Round trip by bike !

Sa Calobra is an indispensable excursion, normally planned by the thousands of cyclists who visit Mallorca every year.

The most experienced cyclists say that an incomparable adrenaline rush is triggered on arrival at sa Calobra, 10 kilometres downhill, surrounded by a simply spectacular and magical landscape.

The road to Sa Calobra is one of the most spectacular roads in the world.

The road, which could be seen in countless automobile advertisements, was built without the help of heavy machinery.

The approximately 12 km long road was inaugurated in 1933, an authentic engineering work that overcomes the 800 meter difference in altitude with a dizzying layout and meanders through the slopes of the mountain.

On the descent, you have to be very careful because the road is very winding, 180º sharp bends connected to large cliffs that make visibility difficult, and the influx of buses, cars and bicycles make it a dangerous road.

It is a narrow road without the white marking of the central strip, with few crash barriers and especially on rainy days the asphalt becomes dangerous.

The road has more than 10 curves of 180 degrees to circle the terrain, and one of 360 degrees, which is referred to as “nus de sa corbata” translated as tie knots,

The road to Sa Calobra is one of the most spectacular roads in the world.

Astonishing for the practice of the sport is its maximum gradient of 7%, which is ideal for sightseeing, and also allows you spectacular cycling views.

If you decide to make the excursion by car, you should know that in the area of Calobra there is a charge for parking.

How to get there from Palma.

From the capital of the island, Palma de Mallorca, you have several options to get to Sa Calobra.

One of the possibilities is to go by car to Port de Sóller and from there take one of the boats or ferries that go to Sa Calobra.

From the Plaza de España in the capital, it takes just over an hour to get there by train from Sóller – a 1912 train that winds its way down the slopes of the Tramuntana Mountains into the Sóller valley.
When you arrive in Sóller, the tram takes you to the port of Sóller, crosses the village and the market square and follows a wonderful route through the orange plantations to the sea.

The north coast of Mallorca is the most spectacular of the Balearic Islands. There are few traces of civilization in its landscape.

The sea blends spectacularly with the mountains and cliffs that rise out of the water and seem to fall into the sea, creating a visual spectacle that is hard to forget and that will fascinate you.

Sa Calobra is the area that lies directly at the rivermouth of the Pareis torrent and is formed by two beautiful small coves that open onto the sea and are surrounded by large rocks and cliffs, offering a small view of the gorge.

Sea and mountains merge to a beautiful landscape, where you can observe all the different blue tones of the water, where brown, ochre and grey of the mountains and cliffs are reflected as well as the green of the hundred-year-old pines.
